March 20, 2010: Children’s Bday Party at Fraternite Notre Dame
When: Saturday, 03/20, 11:30am-1:30pm
*This event is the make-up for the canceled 2/27 event
Where: Fraternite Notre Dame
2290 First Avenue and 118th Street in East Harlem NY
Once every few months we have the opportunity to meet at the Fraternite Notre Dame Soup Kitchen and present the children whose birthdays fall during this time with gifts, take pictures with them and share cake with the rest of the kids (there are normally over 40!). Many of the children’s families don’t have the financial means to buy gifts or throw a big party. The Fraternite of Notre Dame & our Rotaract Club helps to fill this need. The atmosphere is very lively and the kids are always excited to see us. To volunteer for this event, please plan to bring a gift(s) for the children. You don’t have to spend more than $5 per child. (A great place to shop for reasonably priced toys is Jack’s World). Once we hear from you - you will receive the name and age of your child to buy for.
After the event, we typically go out to lunch in the neighborhood and use this time to get to know one another. Did we mention Patsy’s Pizza (yum!) is across the street!
Can’t attend but still want to make a difference? You are welcome to donate a gift. Thanks! See you there!

Hands on New York Day takes place on Saturday, April 24th this year, and is a day of service in cooperation with New York Cares to give NYC “a good spring cleaning”. The purpose of Hands on New York Day is to make New York City parks cleaner, greener, and ready for summer use. We will be joining the other Rotary Clubs in NYC as one Rotary Team! This is always a fun event and a great opportunity to work with our fellow Rotarians to do some hands-on work in our community.
The schedule for the day is as follows:

9:30 a.m. Welcome, orientation, and project assignments
10:00 a.m. Community revitalization begins
12:30 p.m. Lunch - bring your own (unless otherwise directed)
1:00 p.m. Back to work
3:00 p.m. Clean-up, thank you, and goodbye
To attend this event, you will need to register on our Rotary Team website (our team name is…”Rotary Clubs of NYC”!):
Register: http://www.handsonnewyorkday.org/rotary
There is a $20 mandatory (tax deductible) donation that helps cover the cost of supplies for the day, as well as funding for the other projects that occur throughout the year at New York Cares.
This is a family friendly event, but if you will be bringing children under the age of 18 (they must be at least 12 years or older) you will need to fill out a waiver and bring it to the event. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
