Honduras Clean Air Initiative
On Saturday, November 7th, 2009, we hosted our 2nd annual Cocktail Fundraiser to benefit Engineers Without Borders - City College of New York Chapter. The event took place at World Bar at Trump Tower from 5pm-7pm, immediately following Rotary International Day at the UN.
The numbers are in and we raised a total of $4,167, surpassing our goal of $4000 and raising over $1500 more than our 2008 event!!
THANK YOU to all of our attendees, supporters and sponsors! We couldn’t have done it without you!!!
Since 2006, the Club has supported water projects in Honduras in conjunction with Engineers without Borders- City College of New York (EWB-CCNY). These projects have successfully revamped the sanitation and water supply systems in a number of villages in Honduras; one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. This year’s project in Las Chicas, Honduras focused on water distribution issues, equipping homes with proper latrines plus solving grey water and waste management problems. Currently, EWB-CCNY plans to continue working in Honduras by finding a new water project and by expanding their scope to tackle ventilation for wood-burning, mud-brick stoves so that soot no longer pollutes the household’s air. These types of air particulates are the number one causes of death in children under the age of five and claims the lives of more than two million children in the developing world each year.

We would like to thank our family at NY Rotary for their support,
